Overview
Priming deliberately adjusts a seed's hydration level to improve uniform seedling emergence, mitigate heat-induced dormancy and prepare light-requiring crops to germinate in darkness - lettuce is a classic example. Seeds are moistened to a controlled level at which germination metabolism starts, held until the whole batch is equal, and stopped before root emergence so the seed can be dried back without damage.
